Past Presidents of Women in Logistics

We’d like to acknowledge some of the women who have served as president of Women in Logistics over the past three decades:

With over two decades of maritime and logistics marketing and business development expertise, Jill (Simpson) Rodby is Principal of Rx2 Marketing Communications LLC.

She’s held positions in ocean shipping, seaports, freight forwarding, air cargo and B2B print and electronic media. Jill most recently was the Vice President of Communication for Commonwealth Business Media and OAG (now UBM Global Trade and UBM Global Aviation), Maritime Marketing Manager at the Port of San Francisco, Regional Marketing Manager at Tricom Shipping Agencies and Regional Sales Manager at Interocean Steamship Corp.

As President and Chairman of Women in Transportation in the late 1990’s Jill launched the first International Women in Transportation Conferences sponsored by the Journal of Commerce.

Jill currently serves on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the North Bay and as a member of the Port of San Francisco’s Maritime Commerce Advisory Committee.

Jill earned a B.S. in Marketing from San Francisco State University and is completing her M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications at Golden Gate University.

Joan Murphy

Joan has a BA in Sociology with a minor in Business from the University of Wisconsin. 3.8 GPA – graduated with honors in 1978. Joan moved to California and worked for Neptune Orient Lines/APL from 1979-1989. She was promoted numerous times and held various positions in their Marketing and Sales organizations. Her last position was General Manager – Conference Affairs – where she traveled all over the world meeting with representatives from various Steamship Lines. Joan was instrumental in working with NOL’s IT folks helping to design an electronic pricing system that they used world-wide for over 10 years. In 1989 she joined an emerging technology company who specialized in SaaS model /Online hosted supply chain and logistics solutions, MSI, Inc. Joan worked on MSI’s designs for on-line real-time Conference/Pricing management applications. These private Intranet hosted applications were used worldwide by all the major Steamship Lines. The technology behind MSI’s hosted systems helped launch the on-line real-time Internet applications we relay on today such as PriceLine, EBay, and ETrade. In 1999 after 10 years at MSI Inc., as the VP Sales and Marketing, she decided to venture out on her own into Technology recruiting. The Internet was exploding and there were many startups in Silicon Valley looking for good people. She leveraged her technology expertise and joined Adobe Creek Associates – an executive recruiting firm specializing in the Technology sector. 10 years later the organization is still thriving and has grown to over 20 recruiters worldwide specializing in finding and placing sales and marketing staff for emerging growth technology companies. Joan is now the Senior Partner at Adobe Creek Associates.

California’s Women in International Trade and former president of Women in Logistics (WIL). She earned a Masters of International Business (MIBS) from the University of South Carolina and a BA from Furman University.
